Belford / Oxford
Alumni Sneffels Traverse
This year we pulled off a mountain feat—two fourteeners for the price of three. The grind up Belford’s endless switchbacks tested our grit, but when we stood on its summit, the world opened up. Across a vast saddle rose Oxford, just a mile and a half away, daring us to push farther.
We pressed on, reaching Oxford’s summit with hearts full and legs burning, only to face the truth: to get back, we’d nearly have to climb Belford all over again. It was brutal, but also beautiful—an unforgettable crucible.
The reward? A day of pure magnificence. From each peak, we were gifted unobstructed 360° views that stretched seventy miles in every direction. The mountains surrounded us like an ocean of stone, and the air buzzed with possibility. Everyone crushed it. Everyone walked away with something deeper—transformational thoughts, hard-earned joy, and stories carved into memory.
We returned to the mountains—not as first-timers, but as alumni of The Climb, seven strong, ready to go deeper into our journey of transformation. Over five days and four nights, we traversed the wild beauty of the Sneffels Wilderness, moving hut to hut beneath towering peaks and endless skies.
But this wasn’t just a physical adventure. We dug into our “Why”—our reason for being on this planet. Through powerful tools and frameworks, we sharpened our sense of “Who” we are and charted our “Meaningful Action Pathway” to carry that truth forward. The trail became our classroom, and each conversation cut deeper than the last.
The result? More than just miles logged and mountains crossed. We walked away with clarity, insight, and transformation etched into us as surely as the wilderness carved itself into our memories.
In 2024 we climbed Missouri Mountain. The terrain and scenery was breathtaking - as was the ascent! We experienced all four seasons that day… from a near freezing pre-dawn departure, to mist and fog, changing to snow and hail near the summit. This year, our 3-month workshop focused on Nutrition, Mindset, Fitness and Gear Prep - really enriching the experience! We all read and discussed four great books this summer and came away bigger, better, smarter, and stronger!
In 2023 we climbed Mount Elbert, the highest summit of the Rocky Mountains, the highest point in the U.S. state of Colorado, and the second-highest summit in the contiguous United States.
In 2022 we climbed the 14,272-foot Quandary Peak. This ascent was persistent from the trailhead to the summit. But we all made it—and it felt good. The three-day anti-retreat included day hikes, great food, learning, success, friendship, and renewal.
From dark to dark, a long day brought two 14ers for the price of two. The time was incredible, as were the days that bookended the ascent. We learned more about ourselves, our limits, and our potential. These experiences stick with us long after we return home.
